Kate subscribed to Weight Watchers Online. The working Mum-of-one logged on when it suited her busy schedule and lost 20kg.
My turning point...
Before I lost weight I hated seeing photos of myself. At first, I’d tell myself it was just a bad angle but when I’d go clothes shopping and size 16s were snug-fitting, I realised my size wasn’t just a bad angle. I was sick of feeling self conscious. I got to the point where I thought - that's it! I've had enough!
Why I chose Weight Watchers Online...
I didn't want meals delivered as I knew I wouldn't be able maintain my weight after the meals stopped, plus I wouldn't learn any skills. I wanted a lifestyle, not a quick fix. My mother-in-law had great success with Weight Watchers in the past so I knew the program worked, but my husband and I work full-time and we have a young daughter so I didn't have spare time to attend Meetings.
When I learned about the online option, I realised it was perfect for me as I could jump online whenever it suited me.
Changing my lifestyle...
I suddenly became aware of what I was eating. I didn't need to finish my toddler’s leftovers or those extra couple of wines - as everything adds up and affects your weight loss.
I logged on at home or in my lunch hour at work and browsed through recipes to plan dinners and update my food and exercise diary. Through the Recipe Builder I’ve learned how to create healthier versions of my favourite recipes, such as lasagne, with a low-fat cottage cheese and skim milk instead of creamy béchamel sauce. My husband is a chef and he gives the recipes the thumbs up!
My best learning has been how to enjoy a balanced diet and I now know that it’s OK to indulge occasionally.
As my weight came off, I joined a gym and I have an awesome personal trainer. An ambition of mine was to be able to put on a pair of joggers and say, 'I’m off for a run.' Now I can run for 30 minutes without feeling exhausted. I'm fitter and stronger than I've ever been!
The new me...
I’ve been at my Goal weight for six months now and I know I'll never go back to my old ways. I love my healthy, active lifestyle and setting a good example for my daughter. I can go into a clothing shop, walk past the plus sizes and try on a size 10 knowing it will fit perfectly. My weight loss has affected other areas in my life. I've had a promotion at work and finally attained my driver’s license. I know all this is due to my newfound confidence and energy for life!
My advice to others...
You have to accept that if you aren't happy about your weight, YOU are the only person who can change. You can do what I did and put it off till tomorrow or next week, or you can just decide that today is the day and watch your life change!
