"If anyone had asked me to carry an extra 10kg while I ran, it would be obvious how hard that would be. But when its your own body weight...I hadn’t thought of it like that."

Although not at an unhealthy weight, Amanda was bigger than she wanted to be. Read how she used the Online tools to help her lose 10.4 kilos.

Healthy competition
In her own words, her fiancée is a 'fitness freak!' "Brian cycles every day, runs 4 times a week and competes in marathons. Although I will never be as dedicated as that I wanted to get fitter and slimmer. We also tend to go on fairly adventurous holidays together and I didn't want to be left behind when we were out walking."

"I remember when I started losing weight as it was the day that Brian left to go travelling around South America for four months. Although I knew he loved me just as I was, I wanted to be able to keep up with him and look as good as he does. So whilst he was away, I lost weight.

Choosing Weight Watchers Online
Amanda had tried various diets unsuccessfully in the past: "I know a couple of people who had successfully and easily lost weight with Weight Watchers. Going to meetings wasn't really for me but having an online Tracker sounded very appealing so I decided to follow Weight Watchers Online.

Making small changes
I loved the simplicity of the Satisfaction plan. I knew that if I stuck to my daily POINTS® allowance I would be expending more kilojoules than I took in and it WOULD work!

I decided that the best way to be successful was to change one thing at a time, so I wasn't too active for the first three months. First I got used to following the POINTS System; then slowly I introduced activity and started running.

Working with the tools
I am a huge fan of all the Online tools. I love cooking so the Recipe Builder is particularly helpful, either to track how many POINTS values are in my favourite recipes or to work out how I can adjust recipes to bring the POINTS values down.

I have a scientific mind so logging everything that I eat and counting up the POINTS values works well for me. I also now do a lot of exercise and I love being able to input the activity and see how many bonus POINTS values I've earned!

Achievements and realisations
Since I've lost weight I'm amazed at how much easier running has become. Running a half marathon at my Goal weight compared to when I was 10kg heavier meant I knocked over 15 minutes off my time.

It sounds silly, but if anyone had asked me to carry that much weight while I ran, of course it would be obvious how hard that would be, but when its your own body weight I hadn't thought of it like that.

Losing weight has made me realise I can be incredibly dedicated when I want to be. Also, that I'm not 'big boned' and was not at my 'natural weight' when I was heavier - I just ate too much! It's a real ego boost when people tell me how well I look. I still can't quite believe I've done it."
